Nowon-gu sits at the far northeastern edge of Seoul, up against the mountains and the Gyeonggi border. It is Seoul's most densely populated district and one of its most affordable, built out in the 1980s as a large planned apartment zone rather than an old commercial center. The character is plainly residential: more than 80% of housing is apartments, and Nowon ranks first among Seoul's 25 districts in total apartment units. It is also a well-known education district for northern Seoul, with a heavy concentration of schools, hagwon (cram schools), and universities. It is not a nightlife or business hub, and it is far from the international-office and embassy clusters of Gangnam and central Seoul.

Đi lại
Nowon is well covered by three Seoul Metro lines, with Nowon Station (Lines 4 and 7) as the main transfer hub and commercial center. Line 7 runs the length of the district and connects toward Gangnam without a transfer; Line 4 heads down toward central Seoul and Myeongdong; Line 6 serves the southern edge around Taereung and Hwarangdae. The Gyeongchun Line (toward Chuncheon) also stops at Kwangwoon University Station. The trade-off is distance: because Nowon is at the top of the network, commutes into central Seoul or Gangnam typically run 40-60 minutes, so many residents choose it for lower rent and accept a longer ride.
Nowon Station
Line 4, Line 7
Main transfer hub and busiest commercial area of the district

No direct airport rail line. Reaching Incheon International Airport means transferring to the AREX airport train (via Seoul Station) or taking a limited-stop airport bus; plan on roughly 90 minutes to Incheon.
Ai sống ở đây
Nowon is a quiet, family-oriented commuter district rather than a destination. Its identity is affordability and education: it is consistently listed among Seoul's cheapest districts to rent or buy, and the Junggye-dong and Sanggye-dong areas are known citywide for their density of hagwon, earning Nowon a reputation as the 'education district' of northern Seoul. Streets are dominated by 1980s-90s apartment complexes, everyday shopping, and schools. It is close to mountains (Suraksan, Bukhansan foothills) and parks, which suits families and students who want space and calm over a central, walkable-nightlife lifestyle. Do not expect an international or upscale scene here — it is a solidly local, middle- and working-class residential area.
- Nowon Station area— The district's busiest commercial center: department store, shopping, restaurants, and the main transit hub
- Junggye-dong— Best known for its concentrated hagwon (cram-school) district serving families focused on education
- Sanggye-dong— Large planned apartment area to the north; affordable, dense family housing
- Gongneung-dong— University belt around SeoulTech and Kwangwoon; more student housing and cheaper rentals
- Wolgye / Seokgye— Southern edge near Line 1/6; older neighborhoods and the gateway toward central Seoul
Dành cho cư dân nước ngoài
Nowon is a genuine university belt, which is its main draw for foreigners — it hosts several campuses, so international students and university staff are the most common expat residents. Rents are among the lowest in Seoul, with entry-level studios and one-bedrooms often in the ~600,000-1,200,000 KRW/month range (excluding deposit), making it attractive for students and budget-conscious newcomers. The trade-offs: it is far from central Seoul and Gangnam, English-language services and international grocers are limited compared with Yongsan or Gangnam, and the area is oriented toward Korean families rather than an international community. Best suited to those tied to one of its universities or prioritizing low rent over a short commute.
