Yeongdeungpo-gu is served by five Seoul Metro lines — 1, 2, 5, 7, and 9 — plus mainline Korail trains at Yeongdeungpo Station. Line 9 gives Yeouido a fast link east toward Gangnam and west to Gimpo Airport, while Lines 2 and 5 cover the mainland well. Coverage is good almost everywhere in the district, though the specific line depends heavily on which neighborhood you pick.

Line 9 runs directly from Yeouido, National Assembly, and Dangsan to Gimpo International Airport in roughly 25-30 minutes; for Incheon Airport, transfer to the AREX airport line at Gimpo. Yeongdeungpo Station also offers limited long-distance KTX and ITX services.

Yeongdeungpo is a district of contrasts rather than a single identity. Yeouido is the premium end — glass office towers, the IFC Mall, riverside parks, and expensive high-rise apartments aimed at finance workers. The mainland is more down-to-earth and often distinctly working-class: the area around Yeongdeungpo Station is a dense, aging commercial zone with a large traditional market and some rough older entertainment blocks, while Daerim is a busy immigrant neighborhood. Mullae-dong, a former ironworking quarter, has partly reinvented itself as an arts village of studios and cafes. Overall rents are moderate by Seoul standards — a realistic option for people who want central access without Gangnam or Yeouido prices.

Yeongdeungpo is one of Seoul's most internationally mixed districts, but in two very different ways. Daerim-dong is the country's best-known ethnic-Chinese neighborhood: of its roughly 45,000 residents, more than 60% are Korean-Chinese (Joseonjok) or Chinese nationals — the highest such concentration in Korea. It offers cheap rents, abundant Chinese-language services, groceries, and restaurants, and is an easy landing spot for Mandarin- or Korean-Chinese-speaking newcomers (the community has long fought an unfair criminal stigma but is stable and thriving). At the other end, Yeouido draws finance and media expats who want a short commute and riverside living. Note that this is not a university district — there is no major four-year campus inside the gu, only a few small graduate or specialized schools — so students typically look elsewhere.
